Use of directional drilling equipment at Copenhagen’s metro project

Due to difficulties with controlled artificial freezing of the foundation ground in regards to a metro project in Copenhagen, we were asked to help with the required directional drilling and control engineering on location. In collaboration with the construction site (a big thanks goes to the site management and foremen of the Züblin Spezialtiefbau Company), we were able to find a functional solution within a short period of time that could be implemented immediately. The drilling was carried out using a jet cutter head with a roller cone bit (121mm diameter) and the PARATRACK II measuring system. In total, 23 drill holes were drilled over a total length of 600m. The work took place in intermediate shafts under extreme spatial conditions, which posed a great challenge for the workers and equipment alike. Together with our partners, we were able to supply all drilling equipment, the measuring and control technology, as well as the required experts within three days at the location of the construction site. All drilling was carried out to the utter satisfaction of the client with the stipulated precision and drilling radii.
